Vintage Thai brass salt and pepper shaker set featuring enameled Buddha imagery.  The set typically includes three pieces: a saltshaker, a pepper shaker and small container that most properly was used for toothpicks. This vintage condiment and dining ware set originates from Thailand (Historically exported under the name "Siam"), widely manufactured between the 1940's and the 1960's.  During the mid-20th century, Thailand experienced a massive boom in the production of ornate brass and niello-style souvenir wares for the growing western tourist market and post-WWII military personnel stationed in Southeast Asia. This type of craftsmanship combined heavy, cast brass metalwork with colorful hand-painted baked enamel or resin inlay detailing.
