This rod puppet originates from Western Java. Until the 1970’s, puppet shows were the most popular form of theatrical entertainment in Indonesia. This puppet was hand-carved and painted by a puppet master; a skill handed down from the 17^th Cent. It is clothed in traditional Javanese batik - The fabric has faded, due to age. It is in good condition, with no damage or restoration to it. It measures 41 cm long incl. hand stick, the dress is slightly longer. I have two different of these rod puppets (“Wayang Golek”) for sale. Please add R35 postage for one, or R45 postage on the pair.
