WEDDING MIRRORS: These mirrors were given as wedding gifts and would have been a cherished possession for the bride which she would have kept all her life. Possibly handing it down to her daughter during her wedding day. Turkish wedding mirrors are a very traditional aspect of the marital ceremony. They are usually given by the groom to the bride as part of a dowry, and will hang in the sitting room for good luck. They were traditionally made from Turkish silver 900 coins (The name "coin silver" is because metalsmiths historically made items from melted down scrap coin metal). Mirrors will be hung facing the wall during prayer, at which point the decorative back is revealed.
900 SILVER OR COIN SILVER: This mirror has mark A356 900 on the back (see photo). 900 silver is the hallmark that was used on silver mostly before the 19th century mostly in Europe. It has also been denotated for use as coin or standard silver. 900 silver is at least 90% pure silver and was used for coins and fine jewelry. Many people use them to identify the age of vintage and antique jewelry.
CONDITION: SOME VINTAGE PATINA. OVERALL GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION.
