Vintage Wedgwood Black Jasperware Bud Vase around 1960? - Ref.aug26
OK, so this is not an antique, but, it is still a delightful little bud vase, possibly from the 1960' era.
The matte black porcelain is accented with leaves and scallops, along with three Greek inspired images of a chariot, angels and Pegasus, the flying horse.
Josiah Wedgwood introduced a black stoneware way back in 1768. Made from a reddish-brown clay, he found that it burnt to a matte black color. It had a rich color due to the addition of Manganese and was used by Josiah for the production of exquisite ornamental works such as vases, plaques, busts and candlesticks. Black Basalt ware proved so successful with the public that it has continued up to present times.
