An ivory glazed china luncheon plate, decorated with transfer-printed pink
wild roses, buds, green leaves and black detail, remnants of gilt edged rim.
MARKS:
Wacol, Made in England and 5 B 52. Wacol is an acronym for Wedgwood and Co Ltd.,
the letter B refers to the Wartime Concentration Scheme license for Group II.
WEDGWOOD:
Wedgwood & Co. Ltd. of Tunstall, Staffordshire was established in 1860 by
Enoch Wedgwood who made earthenware and stone china at the Unicorn Pottery.
This firm should not be confused with Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd., established
in 1759, who made creamware and jasperware at Burslem, Etruria and Barlaston.
CONDITION:
No chips or cracks, with all over crazing and stilt cock-spur marks to base.
