This delightful pair of vintage ceramic decanters hails from West Germany, cleverly designed in the charming form of antique books. Each decanter measures approximately 8.8cm x 3cm x 13cm (including the cap) and features a rich, dark brown 'cover' and spine, accented with a creamy yellow 'title block'. One is clearly labelled "GIN" and the other "BRANDY," both proudly proclaiming "A CHAPTER OF SELECTED SPIRIT" at the top. Adding to their whimsical appeal, the front of each 'book' displays a delightful, stylised illustration of a character with a bottle, fitting for their intended purpose.
These decanters are distinctive for their "West Germany" marking on the 'pages' side, placing their creation squarely between 1949 and 1990, a period known for its unique ceramic output. They are topped with original plastic stoppers, each clearly marked "ENORM" (written in a cross, sharing the 'O'). The set even includes its original cardboard stand, designed to display them together like a small library.
These vintage items are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing whatsoever. The 'pages' of the books show very little grubbiness, maintaining their clean appearance. The primary signs of age and use are limited to the applied labels on the spine and the pictorial labels of the man with a drink on the side, which exhibit some expected wear and discolouration. The cardboard stand is in much better condition than typically seen for such an item, showing only some discolouration consistent with long-term shelf display rather than significant damage.
