WESTCLOX: In 1887, the United Clock Company of Charles Stahlberg in Illinois USA reorganized under the new name Western Clock Company. The modern trademark of the company, "Westclox," first appeared on the back of Big Ben alarm clocks from 1910 to 1917. The name appeared on Big Ben dials as early as 1911. The company officially registered this trademark on January 18, 1916. The Westclox company was a major manufacturer of dollar watches. The Western Clock Manufacturing Company made their first pocket watch in 1899 and continued to make affordable pocket watches through the 1970s. After various takeovers and bankruptcies Westclox is currently owned by NYL Holdings LLC. In 2012 a fire destroyed almost 25% of the production factory in Illinois. They are however still making watches.
