Vintage wooden jewellery display box

At least I think it is, because the display area looks like it would hold jewellery, definitely not cutlery. The top has a layer of veneer. I don't know what kind of wood this is, it seems to be 2 kinds of wood?? Lined in turquoise felt type of material with the piece in the lid thickly cushioned. The more I look at it, the more I think it was for watches, probably a sample case. But, you could strip out the inner and use the box for whatever.

Closed measurements: Height 8.5cm, length 39cm, width 28cm

Condition: Excellent used condition - There are some scratches, on the right hand side of the lid, see pics. I have had it for about 21 years but it is older
