Sy maak vier kinders groot en volg in die tussentyd n kursus in die joernalistiek en behaal B.A.- en B.A. Honneurs-graad aan die Universiteit van Suid-Afrika. Hierna begin sy onderwys gee en gee ook later aandklasse vir immigrante. Toe haar man siek word, help sy hom uit met sy prokureurspraktyk en le ook haar prokureurseksamen af. Die praktyk word later verkoop toe hy te siek raak om dit verder te behartig. Hy is in 1972 oorlede.
