This plate are made of Jasperware, a type of fine stoneware characterized by its matte, unglazed finish and contrasting bas-relief decorations. The "Mother 1980" plate, specifically, features a central motif of a dove with a sprig in its beak, surrounded by floral designs, all in white against a light blue background. The plate's rim is also decorated with a floral border. 

Wedgwood has a long history dating back to 1759 when Josiah Wedgwood founded the company. The company became known for its high-quality ceramics and innovative designs, including the development of Jasperware in the 1770s. Wedgwood produced a range of commemorative and collectible items, including annual mother's day plates, which were popular gift items. In 1987, Wedgwood merged with Waterford Crystal, forming Waterford Wedgwood PLC. However, the company faced financial difficulties and was later acquired by KPS Capital Partners in 2009. Today, Wedgwood continues to produce ceramics, maintaining its reputation for quality and craftsmanship.
