Ek sien die effense gryns op die man wat dit vashou, se gesig. Net die wit van sy tande is sigbaar. Ek praat met hom kalmerend, sodat hy nie skrik en per ongeluk skiet nie. Maar hy reageer nie. Ek beweeg, stadig, effens na links. Die rewolwerloop bly waar dit was, bewegingloos gerig op die plek waar ek netnou gestaan het. Eers wanneer ek blitsvinnig op hom afspring, wanneer my hande om sy gewrig sluit kry ek die reuk van die dood in my neus...
