The origins of the Game:  Wartime Invention: Pratt developed the game during World War II air-raid blackouts to pass the time. Real-life Inspiration: His inspiration stemmed from his 1930's job playing piano at the country house murder mystery parties.  Original Board Design: His wife, Elva Pratt, designed the original board layout based on a Tudor Mansion. The Original Name:  It was provisionally patented in 1944 under the simple name " Murder:  The Name Gluedo: in 1947, Pratt sold the game to the Leeds-Based manufacturer Waddingtons.  The company combined the word "Clue" with "Ludo" (The Latin word for I play, and a popular British Board Game).  The Transition to "Clue": Waddingtons shared the game their American partner, Parker Brothers, who shortened the name to "Clue" for North American Markets.
