Wahso Chan (1911-1937) This is an original oil on canvas painting by the Chinese American artist Wahso Chan. He is known for the paintings he made of the Elders in San Francisco's China Town. Most often these figures would be smoking either cigarettes, tobacco pipes or opium. He was a masterful painter who could capture the mood and character of the subject with bold brush strokes and very stark light and shadow. This painting is framed and measures 590 X 740mm Outer Edges Of Frame. The painting and frame are in wonderful condition. Bio
Chinese Artist Wahso Chan painted the Elders of the San Francisco China Town. Mr. Chan was killed at a young age in 1937, due to being crushed between two delivery trucks in San Francisco. Mr. Chan was just reaching the pinnacle of his career at the time of his untimely death. Mr, Chan's life spanned from 1911 to 1937. The large painting measures 440 x 595mm.
