However, the Peleus incident is the only known case in which a German submarine had attacked helpless survivors (Wounded, Sick and Shipwrecked).2 In the Peleus trial, five former crew members of the German U-Boat 852 were tried for war crimes by the British Military Court at Hamburg. The Peleus was a Greek merchant ship, chartered by the British Ministry of War Transport. On the night of 1314 March 1944, it was torpedoed by the German submarine near mid-Atlantic....
