Marcel Breuer was an apprentice at the Bauhaus in 1925 when he conceived the first tubular steel chair, the Wassily chair, based on the tubed frame of a bicycle. This is a collectors piece of quality modern furniture we need to sell urgently.
These two chairs were bought by my parents in Italy in the early 70's and imported to South Africa. They are not the 'original' but are very good replicas as can be seen by their condition after more than 40 years of use.
There are three minor areas for repair, and we've never repaired anything in the past which illustrates the quality. The most serious is shown in the photo on the right where the one leather back is torn. The second problem is some stiching coming loose on the other chair - also see photo. The third is a missing allen nut and bolt, also illustrating the level of detailed quality.
The chairs are located in Fresnaye, Cape Town and you will need to make arrangements to collect before end March. Price excludes any delivery or shipping. Viewing can be arranged by appointment.
