This book captures the essence of the Waterberg, its people, the mountains, the flora and the fauna. With anecdotes and stories from the people who lived there early in the 20th century it vividly brings to life a bygone age when travel was by ox-wagon, horse or donkey cart.
It recounts the arrival in the Waterberg of the motor vehicle the model T Ford and the changes that it made to the lives of the community. The second part focuses mainly on the trees and the author writes with passion of his first encounter as a boy with a wild tree, and later, of the excitement of finding a tiny flower peeping out of the grass, an unusual protea in flower or discovering a grove of large yellowwoods hidden in an unexplored gully.
By putting pen to paper the author has attempted to record contemporary history and preserve memories before, as he says, they get lost in the mists of time.
