SIGNED  & DATED BY GREGOIRE BOONZAIER, published by Unie-Volkspers, Cape Town, 1949, hardcover, illustrated, 48 pages of text, 24 cms x 31.5 cms, also 83 plates, some full page, condition: very good.

The book is co-authored by his fellow " New Group" member Lippy Lipshitz. The New Group served as a forum and mouthpiece of young South African art for almost 15 years, staging exhibitions throughout the country, and providing rural areas with a glimpse of the new trends in art. The 'New Group" also included amongst its members, Judith Gluckman, Louis Maurice, Solly Disner and Walter Battiss.

Boonzaier signed the book in Vermont in the Western Cape, presumably at his beloved Geelhuis which became fondly known as Gregoire se Geelhuis.

Gregoire Boonzaier  (1909 2005) was a South African artist well known for his landscapesportraits and still life paintings. He was a famous exponent of Cape Impressionism, a founder of the New Group, and a contributor, through his art works, to the struggle against apartheid.
