From the town of Campbell along the Vaal river Wesleyan missionaries travelled eastwards along the Vaal river in search of any Bechuana tribe to connect with in order to establish a mission station. Reaching Platberg in 1826 they achieve their goal. However in 1833, Platberg was over-populated and a mass migration eastwards to the Caledon valley took place. Here they lived peacefully until the arrive of the Emigrant Frontiersmen from the Cape in 1836 created a new situation. foxing throughout.
