Wessel Marais passed away on the 3^rd of April 2009 and will be remembered among South Africa’s top artists, some have added him to the list of old Masters. His work will however prove to be a good investment and I have personally seen works of between R60k-R90k at galleries.

If one considers his auction results, one can see that his works have consistently sold above estimates.

Speaking to a few gallery owners, it would seem that his work has sold well and at significant premiums to what it was selling at before.

What may also assist in improving the value of Wessel Marais’s work is that his family are busy with the publishing of a Coffee Table Book that will be available toward the end of the year. The article below that appeared in the Rapport Newspaper of the 14th of March 2010.
