Description
Post-war steel helmet produced in West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany) for use by the Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Guard), formed in 1951.
The helmet features a simplified M31-style leather liner, with the chin strap attached directly to the liner band, consistent with early BGS and post-war German police/military production. The exterior has a brown/olive finish with visible age and service wear.
These helmets were issued during the early Cold War period and represent West Germanys re-establishment of internal security forces after the Second World War.
