Hard cover, 319 pages ,first published 1950 by Robert Hale LTD London. Blue boards with gilt lettering to spine. Clean inside, binding intact, spine square and slightly faded. Signature on map front end page and dated address i the margin. 16 B/W drawings. A good copy. The author served as a harpooner on board the Charles W. Morgan, 1849 - 1853. He wrote this narrative after he retired from the sea, about 1864. It offers a first hand account of the life and hazards involved n the early whaling industry. It also gives insights into the hardships of a profession that offered much danger in return for little pay. If you love ships and the sea, this is a wonderful read. No overseas shipping.
