All wheelchairs are designed to be used with a wheelchair cushion. This specially designed wheelchair cushion is made of separate air pillows, making it the most comfortable wheelchair cushion available. A pneumatic wheelchair cushion is indicated for painful pressure areas on the buttocks and can be used to relieve the pressure on mild to moderate pressure sores as it can be inflated to fit the person individually. It is a great choice for someone without sensation in their buttocks as it can assist to prevent pressure sores.

An air cushion needs to be half inflated, so that the person is sitting on a soft, squishy cushion. If it is overinflated - it is too hard. If it is underinflated - the person will be in contact with the hard seat. To check inflation, you should be able to insert a finger between the person's buttocks and the seat. As each person is different, a different amount of inflation is required for each person. If you are unsure. please seek professional advice.

An air cushion needs to checked regularly that it is not going flat.
