The author , a journalist arrived in Zimbabwe in 1980 at the time of Independence and over the next twenty years he experienced one of the most shocking stories of modern times as Robert Mugabe laid waste to a country that had once been the bread basket of Africa.  In Zimbabwe Medlrum made passionate friendships, had exciting adventures, but also uncovered a massacre and fell foul of a dictator. Eventually he had to flee to his homeland.
