It isn't just Concorde that breaks the sound-barrier - whips do too. Scientists originally thought that the crack produced by a whip is because the tip of the whip breaks the sound barrier and makes a minature sonic boom - this is when something travels faster than the speed of sound and overtakes its own sound wave so that the sound waves are all compressed together behind the object, making a very loud sound. But now scientists have found that it is not the tip of the whip that is making the noise - because that they have found that when the crack occurs the tip is actually moving at twice the speed of sound - 1434 miles per hour. So what is breaking the sound barrier and making the noise when the whip actually cracks then ? Physicists Alain Goriely and Tyler McMillen at the University of Arizona in the US have found that it is in fact the loop that travels along the length of the whip that breaks the sound barrier and makes the cracking noise.

Stockwhips are the most popular style of whip in Australia. Stockmen on horseback prefer them because they can be hung over their shoulder when not in use and they won't slide off like a bullwhip does. The keeper acts like a hinge to prevent the whip from sliding off. Also if the handle breaks they can easily attach another. The Australian stock whip is the king of whips.

Stockwhips are a unique design of whip that has developed in Australia for moving mobs (herds) of cattle (not used for sheep) and is well known for its quick action.

These whips are light & fast, excellent for two-handed routines.

This whip is made out of 550 nylon para-cord. Why Nylon?

2. Nylon whips are less costly than whips made from natural materials, and do not require as much care. If you are into whip cracking as a hobby and use natural whips, you sometimes have to wait on the right conditions to crack those expensive whips, but not with these! You can crack them when YOU want to crack them. I don't think twice about cracking my nylon whip in the rain or the morning dew!

The Handle or "Crop" is made out of Aluminium for durability and lightness, half plaited, and finished off on the keeper with a French grapevine.

The total length of this whip including handle and fall is 2.55m (+- 8.4ft)
