The inspiration for this painting is the art of Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). He evolved a non-representational form, which he termed Neo-Plasticism. (White ground upon which was painted a grid of horizontal and vertical black lines and using only the three primary colours. The idea was that no two forms should be the same size, and that there must be a balance of colours across the ground.) I’ve used this principle as basis, adding very simplified objects and using my own colour palette. I wanted to draw the attention to a focal point where the colours are light and the space calm and restful, while the darker beams across the canvas help to obtain perspective and to draw the eye to the focal point. In doing this, painting becomes as much a left brain activity, calculating the size of the blocks and balancing the colours, as well as a right brain activity.
This is an original oil painting. A certificate of authenticity will be supplied with the painting.
