Mary Metford who grew up in White River in the 1920's has long cherished a dream of making a record of the story of White River. Keeping this objective alive in her mind for more than ten years, Mary persevered with gathering and recording anecdotes and personal stories from old friends now living overseas, and all over South Africa. Bobbie van Zyl, a relative newcomer to the district, having lived there only seventeen years, was caught up in her enthusiasm, and was of tremendous assistance in the process. Together they followed up leads and stories, and interviewed a number of elderly people of all races in the district, many of whom have since died and whose reminiscences would certainly have been lost........."
