British-born botanical illustrator from Bristol. Helen Vanderplank was an Englishwoman of Flemish descent who came to South Africa as a kindergarten teacher but later became a lecturer in botany and zoology and an artist on the staff of the Albany Museum in Grahamstown. After retiring to Port Elizabeth, she collected and illustrated, with the steady support of friends, a representative selection of the flowering plants of the region, more than 900 species of wildflowers in two books: Wild Flowers of the Port Elizabeth Area: Swartkops to Sundays Rivers (1998) and Wild Flowers of the Port Elizabeth Area: Gamtoos to Swartkops Rivers (1999).Framed in in gold frame and glass. Every pic measures 44cm x 34cm.
