Wilkinson Sword started making razors in 1890 and was based in Sheffield, England. They were blade makers of note, and the company crafted, among others, the sword presented to Josef Stalin by Winston Churchill after Russia's defeat of the German army at Stalingrad in 1943.

Their biggest rival was Gillette from the USA. But after decades of dwindling sales and numerous take-overs, including Schick from the USA, it eventually was sold to Gillette during March 2003 for $930 million.

My dad always shaved with Wilkinson Sword blades in the late 60's and I remember how he always praised the blades, and at the same time complained about the price! These blades are now manufactured by Gillette in India and obviously to the same standards all Gillette products are manufactured, and the blades are extremely sharp.

They would give you 5-6 good close shaves per blade. So, a tuck of 10 blades will give you 50-60 shaves, costing R22. Unbeatable value for money.
