This is a hand painted original engraving from either the first or second edition of Burchell's Travels in the Interior of Southern Africa.

This book originally came out in very limited runs of less than 1000 each, so prints like these are extremely rare. The stipple effect and the hand painting mark it as an original, not a later copy.

Excellent lilac mount and pleasant frame in very good condition, ready to hang on your wall.

This rock fountain ("klip fontein") is somewhere in the Northern Cape, but I am not sure exactly where. Burchell got as far as Griquastad and present day Kuruman in his travels.

The original watercolour drawing upon which this engraving is based recently sold at Bonhams in London for over R89 000.

Secure packaging and Postnet to Postnet is R99. Or use own courier. Tracked postage is R55.
