Based on the artists drawings for the opera Lulu, each print has been tinted with watercolour by hand. William Kentridges version of Alan Bergs 20th century modernist masterpiece, the opera Lulu, opened to great acclaim at New Yorks Metropolitan Opera in late 2015 

The"lulu" series are inspired by German playwright Frank Wedekind's tragic character, Lulu, from his plays "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box." Kentridge's series explores themes of desire, power, and the human condition through a combination of drawing, animation, and multimedia elements. Kentridge's reinterpretation of Lulu's story in a contemporary context raises questions about sexuality, identity, and societal norms. Overall, the "Lulu" series is a thought-provoking and visually striking body of work that showcases William Kentridge's unique artistic style and his ability to engage with complex themes in a deeply personal and compelling way.

William Kentridge is a South African artist known for his prints, drawings, and animated films. He was born in Johannesburg in 1955 and studied at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Johannesburg Art Foundation. Kentridge's work often explores the political and social issues of his native South Africa, as well as broader themes of time, memory, and history. He is considered one of the most important contemporary artists working today.
