WILLOW PATERN SAUCER
??JAPANISE??
Two birds flying high,
A Chinese vessel, sailing by.
A bridge with three men, sometimes four,
A willow tree, hanging o'er.
A Chinese temple, there it stands,
Built upon the river sands.
An apple tree, with apples on,
A crooked fence to end my song.
This delightful little saucer measuring 13.5 cm in diameter has no markings on the back, in my opinion from the grey tone of the porcelain and others I have come across which are exactly the same except of the markings JAPAN or OCCUPIED JAPAN, this Willow Pattern Saucer is most likely JAPANISE TRANSFER WARE, I do not think this item is prior to the 1890 McKinley Tariff introduction, but rather that it was not marked due to the underglased pockmarks and therefore not considered for export.
There are two very faint hairline cracks on the back and a few black underglased pockmarks on the front upper right hand side.
