South African 1927-2021
South African born post-war and contemporary artist, Willem Adriaan Blom, known as Wim, was born in Germiston in 1927. He obtained a fine arts degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and post graduate degrees from universities in both Edinburgh and Perugia. He taught at Wits and the Johannesburg School of Art before immigrating to Canada in 1959, where he became the curator of the National Gallery of Canada. His work is represented in the National Galleries of Canada and South Africa and many international corporate and private collections. Blom's works are precise and have a timeless quality, ranging from broad painterly abstraction to an exploration of line and the intriguing qualities of space.
