New license model for the first time in Windows Server 2016

In the previous versions, both the standard and the data center license apply to two physical CPUs each. With the new license model, there was a switch from pro-CPU to pro-core licensing. It is assumed that a server has at least 8 cores per processor and a total of at least two processors, i.e. a total of 16 cores. 16 cores are then the minimum per server, at least 8 cores must be licensed per CPU. Better-equipped servers must be upgraded with additional licenses. The additional add-ons are available in steps of 2, 16 and 24 cores. In addition, it is necessary to purchase the corresponding user or device
