On the one hand, you have the Winter Olympics, with it's gradual acceptance of snowboarding and other extreme winter sports. On the other hand, you've got the ESPN Winter X Games, and there are no prizes for guessing what the X stands for. The X Games are all about big air, sick tricks, and reckless endangerment of bones and cartilage, and the PS2 version recreates two-thirds of that equation beautifully.
There are four events in this console X Games - Snowboarder-X (slalom), Superpipe, (halfpipe), Big Air (guess), and Slopestyle, (trick course). In addition to these, you also get two huge freestyle runs to enjoy at your leisure, a highly competitive two-player mode, and an exhaustive career option which takes you around the world's peaks as you seek to build your skills and stats. All this would be for naught, however, were it not for the fact that it plays well (and looks great). This is a highly polished title that combines the best elements of extreme sports and button-bashing games to great effect.
