Offering Molly Reinhardt a job as a columnist on The Sunday Time would be my prompt reply. I recall very well the day - it is more than ten years ago now - when she first came to see me. I had not heard of her before, and when she spoke to me she undoubtedly had a problem. She knew she was good. At the same time she is a very modest person - so you can see her difficulty. How does a modest person set about convincing a prospective editor that she is a good writer? Not easy of course, but there was something about Molly's earnest, sincere approach that gave me the feeling she was in fact understating her case.
