Withnail and I documents vividly the story of two down-and-out actors living in Camden town at the end of the 60's.
Appalled by their surroundings, situation and the human zoo they are forced to confront in the every day battle of making it to tomorrow, they hatch a plan to escape to the country.
However, Penrith doesn't offer them the respite they were looking for "Please help us - we've gone on holiday by accident" says Withnail.
Forced to confront homicidal poachers, angry bulls and rampant homosexuals, they finally realise that the change of location will not be enough lighten the burden of survival.
The film captures the painful emptiness that all young people had to encounter when they realised that the greatest decade in the history of man was coming to an end, and they would have to endure the inevitable, unbearable come-down.
One of the most well-written and beautifully executed films ever produced, will have you rolling with laughter throughout, but leave you with food for thought as well. It could, in some respects, be called a very English "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".
One of the most quotable and enjoyable films ever created, you would do yourself a sore injustice not to own it.
