'Wolf Avni, a partner in the Giant's Cup Wilderness Reserve in the Southern Drakensberg, began his lifelong affair with aquatic environments and angling at the tender age of four when he hooked his first catch - a 7 lb spotted grunter. Thereafter he attended various schools in South Africa and Israel, but claims to have spent more time in the littoral and tidal zone than in the classroom! In 1969 he became a professional diver, ending up as owner of a diving school in the Canary Islands where he honed his skill as an underwater photographer. His interest in fly-fishing developed in the mountain streams of the Western Cape, where he caught his first trout in 1971. He is a regular contributor to the journal Flyfishing as well as a number of other angling, fly-fishing and travel publications.'
