EUROPA WATCHES:
"Europa" was the trademark of Uhrenfabrik Senden GmbH., a firm founded in the fifties near Ulm.
The watch factory was founded in 1947 in the town of Senden (Bavaria) by Erich Rittinghaus and Gustav Eiffert. At its best, the company employed up to 2,500 people and had a daily production of up to 32,000 watches. The company became particularly famous for its Europa, Ducado and Deluxe travel alarm clocks. 
In 1991 it was discovered that the company had been disposing of toxic waste through old well shafts. Chemicals such as cyanide and copper sludge contaminated groundwater for years. Therefore, the company was closed in 1993 and the former factory site was converted into the Senden business park.
