• For your consideration is a very rare and emblematic Baroque/Rococo tobacco box

• It is made by the workshop of the renown mid 18th century engraver Johann Heinrich Giese (1716-1761) from Iserlohn, Germany

• In the 18th century, the town became known for its "Iserlohn boxes", tobacco or snuff boxes with engraved and embossed lids, such as the one presented here

• Ornate embossed brass top and bottom with exquisitely detailed and very complicated figural Maritime and domestic scenes, detailing the thriving in the period Colonial trade , The body is silver plated copper

• The top displays allegorical representations of the four continents - Europa, Africa, Asia and America, as well as two images related to the Dutch text under it, one with ships arriving at a shore and greeted by a native, the other - a bucolic scene of people drinking and smoking around a table

• There are also scrolls and foliage and variety of heraldry symbols, lions, coats of arms etc.
