He was born in 1917 in Adelaide, Cape, South Africa.

Studied art under John Muff-Ford 1935-1938.

He participated in a huge number of group exhibitions from 1939 on, including in the UK and in Australia.

Had 10 solo exhibitions in Joburg, 5 in Cape Town, and 1 in London and is represented in numerous galleries and collections.

Douglas Treasure, whose style is often somewhat similar to that of Sydney Carter,  experienced considerable success with his watercolours on the South African market before his death in 1995. Interest in his work has continued, and his watercolours can sometimes fetch up to R4000 at auction
