Born in Staffordshire, England and always wanting to paint, I finally achieved my ambition to start seriously in 1980 when an opportunity came up for watercolour lessons with Eric Wale in Cape Town. Jumping at the chance and having dabbled for years with drawing and painting, I realised that this was what I had always wanted to do. Although my lessons only lasted two or three months, I had already met several special people who were to become lifelong friends and we started to paint together once a week. This has now been going on for 33 years! Now I teach watercolour in my studio at home, and paint nearly every day, dabbling in Oils, Pastels, and Acrylics, along with my Watercolour, with a relative amount of success. I have given many demonstrations in Watercolour, and workshops to aspiring watercolour painters, and belong to several art societies. I Joined The South African Society of Artists more than 30 years ago, have served on the committee and won quite a number of prizes for my watercolours including the Best Watercolour in two annual exhibitions (2008 and 2011) and best Pastel in 2011 In 2011 I was awarded Fellowship of the South African Society of Artists, which is a huge honour as well as a medal from the S A National Association for the visual Arts. I am a member of the Constantia Art Society and the Western Cape Watercolour group and have won many awards and prizes for paintings and given demonstrations and workshops for both. I have also been to Pietrasanta in Italy twice to sculpt in white marble and am exploring stone sculpture in general.
