Joan Schrauwen lives on the banks of the Berg River Estuary on the West Coast of Southern Africa. Her parents were born in Holland and came to South Africa in the 1920s. Her grandfather was Tinus de Jongh, the artist. She has compiled, written and illustrated a non-fiction book titled Circle of Seasons: West Coast published by Struik Winchester, South Africa. Her husband is a Civil Engineer, and they lived in South West Africa for years during the 1960s, when the Angola-SWA Border war first started.
