WRITTEN ON THE BODY

Jeanette Winterson

Condition: Near fine. Jonathan Cape first edition (1992). Dust jacket clean and intact, with only minor surface wear. Tight binding and unmarked pages. A well-preserved copy of this modern classic.

About the Book:
Written on the Body is Jeanette Wintersons most intimate and daring novel a story of love and loss that transcends gender, identity, and the limits of the body itself. Told by a narrator of undisclosed sex, it chronicles an obsessive love affair with Louise, a married woman whose illness turns passion into elegy.
The books language is tactile, poetic, and philosophical exploring how desire inscribes itself upon flesh and memory. The body is a palimpsest, the narrator says, a secret code only visible in certain lights.
In dismantling the conventions of both gender and genre, Winterson makes language itself the site of loves revelation its cruelty, its beauty, and its permanence.

About the Author:
Jeanette Winterson was born in 1959 in Lancashire and now lives in London. Her debut novel, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, won the 1985 Whitbread Award and was adapted for BBC television, earning her a BAFTA. Her subsequent works The Passion, Sexing the Cherry, and Written on the Body established her as one of the most original voices in contemporary British fiction. She has received numerous awards, including the E. M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
