WW1 - 1915/15 TRIO - 234221. Petty Officer W.H. Pontin.  Royal Navy

This is in good condition mounted on card with Navy records.

Born 3rd Jan 1889 at Swindon , Wilts.UK. His occupation was Farm Labourer andon the 3rd Jan 1907 he attested at the age of 18 for 12 yearsservice.

He spent 10 days in the cells in Sept 1908otherwise his character is given as good .

  (234221 W H Pontin, PO ,RN) Petty Officer Royal Navy, L.S (Leading Seaman on the Star. William HenryPontin was born in Swindon , Wiltshire. A farmlabourer he joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard HMS Impregnable 7thJuly 1905. Rated Ordinary Seaman aboard HMS Empress of India inJanuary 1907 and Able Seaman aboard HMS Carnarvon in September 1908. Qualifiedas a Seaman Gunner (Gun Layer), he was serving on HMS Hilary at the start ofthe First World War and was advanced to Leading Seaman in April 1915. ServedHMS Blake from October 1915 to March 1918 and then joined the Torpedo BoatDestroyer HMS Mounsey advanced to Petty Officer in July 1918. Demobilised inMarch 1919 he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve being recalled to active serviceagain in Sept 1923.
