An exceptional and rare First World War-era British military compass, Mark VII Vernier Pattern, manufactured by Short & Mason Ltd, London. Dated 1916, serial number 42644, and clearly stamped with the Broad Arrow and AM (Air Ministry) markings indicating Royal Flying Corps (RFC) or early RAF issue.
The compass features a precision vernier scale and remains in full working order. Housed in its original military-issue leather pouch, marked Leatheries Ltd and also Broad Arrow stamped.
