An EXCELLENT example of a WW1 Silver 3rd South African Infantry Regiment & Pith Helmet Flash . These pieces appear to be in a VF state , with detailed Relief on both obverse and reverse. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. The 3rd S.A.I composed of men from the Rand Light Infantry & Witswatersrand Rifles - and were initially sent to participate in the Senussi Campaign in Egypt during 1916.
The Formation was later deployed to France & participated in the Battles for Deville Wood, Ypres & Passchendaele.
