A WW1 Memorial "Death" plaque and medal trio to a Royal Engineers casualty. Sgt. George Adlard died of wounds on Sunday 19 August 1917. He now lays buried in Villers-Faucon cemetery in the Somme, France. After serving in German South West Africa with Western Transvaal Rifles as Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant he joined the Royal Engineers (281st Army Troops Coy) for the campaign on the Western Front & France. The KGV British War Medal and Victory Medal are both named to 107971 A/Sjt. G. Adlard. R.E.
Adlard was posthumously awarded with the Mentioned in Despatches (M.I.D.).11 December 1917
Included is a small piece of shrapnel which was most probably removed from him and caused him to die of his wounds on 19/8/1917.
