An EXCELLENT example of a World War I , German Leather Fighting/ Trench Knife Scabbard with inscription. This piece appears to be in a VF/F state , with detailed Relief on obverse. All parts appear present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Scabbard body is intact w/ Retention buckle and inscribed letters : ' D. T. H ' visible.
This piece has been subject to usage in Combat Conditions- and is over 100 years old. The tradition of Fighting Knives being carried by German Soldiers pre-dates 1914 , with the practice tracing back to the Napoleonic Era 'Jäger' units.
