WW1 K.I.A. Medals to 'PTE. A.C. PAYNE' (2ND S.A. Infantry)
This original, South African, Great War causality, pair of full-size medals with provenance, were awarded to 'Private Albert Clarence Payne' who at the age of 24, was killed in action on the 12th of October 1916 during the 'Battle of the Somme' where the South African Brigade attacked the German 'Snag and Tail Trenches' near 'Butte de Warlencourt' in France. At the time he was serving with the '2nd Regiment of the South African Infantry' in 'C. Company' and is buried at the 'Warlencourt British Cemetery' in Bapaume in the Pas de Calais region of France. The medals are in great condition, nicely tarnished with their original ribbons and impressed on the rims 'PTE. A.C. PAYNE and 2ND S.A.I.' and come with a few records/documents and a photograph that I came across.
