WW1 - Scarce S. African Medal Trio - 'Gnr. A.B. Kode' (Durban Garrison Artillery)
This original, scarce WW1 South African group of three full-size medals were awarded to 'Gunner A.B. Kode' of the 'Durban Garrison Artillery' (1912 - 1920). The medals are impressed 'GNR. A.B. KODE. DUR. GAR ARTY.', are in great condition, nicely tarnished with their original ribbons.
NOTE: Ive read, that the Durban Garrison Artillery were a small unit, consisting of only 300 men, which was raised in 1912 under Lt. Col. C. Wilson and in 1914 they were mobilised to man the batteries defending Durban harbour, then in 1915 the 'N' and 'K' batteries were despatched to the German S.W.A. campaign, with 'K' battery serving with Berrange's Eastern Force with 'two pounder naval guns' drawn by oxen on field carriages.
